Potatoes were responsible for the success and fall of the irish economy.

Plants have been extremely important to the life of humans and to how our civilizations formed and changed through time. The domestication of plants like wheat, for example, allowed for cities to get established and grow; a big change from the hunting and gathering life style of our ancestors. Sugar and cotton played also a role in the enslavement of Africans and their forced move to the Americas. Potatoes were responsible for the success and fall of the Irish economy.  I could go on and on, listing the role of plants in history, but those belong to history books.
What I want to know in this discussion board is how plants, or a single plant, has shaped YOUR life. I want you to think of what are your favorite things in life, and then try to see if there is one plant that stands out. Tell us about what plant that is and how it has shaped your life.
Exchange some new ideas of situations you didn’t think of before that plants were an important part of.
